Having transitioned from solicitor to barrister and entrepreneur, I’ve experienced first-hand the challenges women face in building sustainable businesses in male-dominated environments. I believe that we need to level the playing field for women in order to promote true gender equity.
As a member of the Victorian Women Lawyer’s Association and Women’s Bar Association for many years, I’ve campaigned for more research on the barriers facing female lawyers, assisted with the design of flexible workplace policies, pushed for affirmative action in aspects of the legal profession, and mentored women lawyers.
Trying to improve the position of women in the law and counteracting stereotypes is one way of helping those women who come after me. But it’s not enough.
I’m on a mission to do what I can to help level the playing field for women and girls in our society.
I would like to leave this world knowing that our daughters and grand-daughters have the same opportunity as our sons and grand-sons, and that girls do not see themselves as limited by stereotypical views of their gender.
